Bayne Finishes 31st In The Heartland

Kansas City, Kan. (May 10, 2015) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, sustained damage to the nose on a late race restart on Saturday evening at Kansas Speedway that ultimately resulted in a 31st-place finish.

“We had something going before the rain came.” said Bayne after the race.  “Early on in the race before the rain came we were really making up ground on the high-line. (Crew chief) Bob (Osborne) made some good adjustments there. But after the rain the car didn’t handle quite as well. Then getting that damage there to the nose didn’t help at all. But now we look ahead to two weeks of racing at home in Charlotte.”

With the threat of rain in the air, Bayne began the 267-lap event from the 30th position but steadily began to move his way forward, improving six positions by the lap 25 competition caution Bayne would maintain his top-25 position on the ensuing restart but would ultimately fall one lap down to the race leaders just prior to the first round of green flag pit stops on Lap 79.

After cycling out in the 28th position, the Knoxville, Tenn. native would work his way back up to 24th just prior to the caution coming out for rain on Lap 98. Following a two hour and 16 minute red flag for the rain, Bayne would stay out on the race track and get the wave around to get back onto the lead lap just prior to the Lap 107 restart.

Now back on the lead lap, the Roush Fenway Racing driver would again begin to move forward, improving four positions in the laps following the restart before a tight handling condition caused Bayne to settle in to the 26th position. Bayne would maintain his position until contact on a Lap 200 restart damaged the nose of the AdvoCare Ford, affecting the car’s handling for the remainder of the event.

After pitting for repairs, Bayne would return to the track two laps down to the race leaders and would ultimately take the checkered flag in the 31st position.

Up next for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is the NASCAR Sprint All-Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway next weekend.
