Biffle Moves Through Field To Finish 13th in Martinsville

Martinsville, Va. (Oct. 30, 2016) – Greg Biffle’s No. 16 FordPass Ford was one of the fastest cars on the track for much of Sunday’s Goody’s 500 at Martinsville, but early damage to the nose of his Fusion and a poorly-timed caution held him to a 13th-place finish.

“We had a great FordPass Ford today,” Biffle said. “The guys got it going great, I just wish we had been able to move forward a little sooner. My spotter told me we were running top-five lap times for the second half of the race. We’ll take this progress and move on to Texas.”

Biffle moved forward from his 25th-place starting position early, but the physical nature of a race at Martinsville took a toll on Biffle’s FordPass Fusion as a hole in the nose of the car limited speed and hurt handling. The damage was not severe enough to bring Biffle to pit road under the green flag, but cautions were few and far between in the 500-Lap event. Biffle would fall as low as 28th, but by the time the damage was fully repaired on Lap 200 he exited pit road 23rd.

A 150-Lap green flag run would allow Biffle to pick off competitors one-by-one, advancing to the 14th position. He was passed by the race leader shortly before pitting under the green flag for four tires and fuel. A caution would come out just four laps after Biffle pitted, putting him two laps down in 14th-place. Crew chief Brian Pattie instructed Biffle to take the wave around to get back to one lap down.

Biffle battled the rest of the race for the lucky dog position, but another much-needed caution never came and he would finish 13th.
