Incident Relegates Wallace to 33rd-Place Finish

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 5, 2016) – Bubba Wallace, driver of the No. 6 Ford EcoBoost Ford Mustang, was involved in a multi-car incident in the NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon on Lap 136 that ultimately led to a 33rd-place finish.

“I am good,” said Wallace after the race. “That Coca-Cola kind of brought me back to life. It is just unfortunate. We were running our own race there. Top-10. Kind of fell off late in the run and were getting free but we were making gains on our Roush Fenway Ford Mustang all day and getting it better and better. To come out with a destroyed race car, it’s just unfortunate and I hate it for my guys. We will rebound. We have a good Ford Mustang going to Phoenix and we will go from there.”

Wallace began the day from the 12th position after advancing to the third round of knockout qualifying on Saturday morning. From the drop of the green flag, Wallace reported to crew chief Seth Barbour that the No. 6 Ford EcoBoost Ford Mustang was free on entry into the corner. Barbour then utilized a green-flag pit stop on Lap 54 to make a chassis adjustment in the hopes of improving the handling of the car.

Upon returning to the track, Wallace reported that the adjustments had helped the handling of his Roush Fenway Ford as he raced his way into the seventh position. Wallace continued to battle for position inside the top 10 as the wind began to pick up just shy of halfway.

With the wind affecting the handling through the corners, Wallace hit pit road again for the second round of green-flag pit stops on Lap 130 for four tires and a chassis adjustment. Wallace returned to the track inside the top 10 but was collected in a multi-car incident just six laps later on Lap 136 that severely damaged the Ford EcoBoost Ford.

After surveying the damage in the garage it was determined that the damage was too severe to repair, ending the team’s race early. Wallace was scored with a 33rd-place finish.

Next up for the NASCAR XFINITY Series is Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday, March 12.
