Reed Collected Mid-Race at Chicago

JOLIET, Ill. (June 30, 2018) – Ryan Reed was left settling for a 32nd-place finish Saturday afternoon in his No. 16 Drive Down A1C Lilly Diabetes Ford at Chicagoland Speedway after suffering damage from a wreck halfway through the race.  Reed was poised to rebound from a tight-handling condition early on in the race when another competitor cut down in front of him.  The team tried to repair the damage and continue, but the damage was too severe.

Reed started the race from the 16th position and over the course of Stage 1 reported he needed more grip.  At the Stage break, Reed pitted for multiple chassis adjustments in an effort to remedy the handling woes.

Over the course of Stage 2, the handling shifted to tight but was much better than the previous run.  Reed once again pitted for tires, fuel, and an air pressure adjustment before lining up 16th for the final Stage of the race.

While working his way forward through the field, another competitor cut down in front of Reed resulting in contact.  Reed was then hit from behind and sent into the outside wall.  After two trips down pit road for repairs, it seemed as if the No. 16 was ok to continue on, but after a short green flag run a tire rub presented itself.  Reed was forced to take his No. 16 Drive Down A1C Lilly Diabetes Ford to the garage and end his day early.
