Roush Fenway “Going the Distance” at Pocono With Voice of “Eye of the Tiger”

CONCORD, N.C. (June 2, 2016) – Roush Fenway Racing will harbor its inner “Eye of the Tiger” this weekend when the NASCAR circuit rolls into Pocono Raceway. The team will entertain Dave Bickler, who is a Grammy winning vocalist and former lead singer of the rock band Survivor. Bicker is best known as the voice behind the mega timeless hit “Eye of the Tiger” that served as the theme song for the hit movie Rocky 3 and has become a sporting event arena-rock staple.

“This will be my first NASCAR race and we are excited about going to Pocono this weekend,” said Bickler, who is no stranger to major sporting events, having sung the National Anthem at several events in the past. “I’ve never been to a NASCAR race and jumped at the idea to see what it’s all about.”

With Bickler at the helm on vocals, “Eye of the Tiger” was voted Billboard’s No. 2 song of 1982. The power anthem was named “Best New Song” by the People’s Choice Awards, came in at No. 18 on the “Top 100 Singles” chart in Billboard’s 100th Anniversary issue, sold over 2.5 million copies on iTunes, is featured on popular electronic games such as Guitar Hero, and was ranked #63 on VH1’s “100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs” in 2008.

“I don’t think there is a person out there that hasn’t – between Eye of the Tiger and the Real Men of Genius ads —  heard Dave Bickler’s voice,” said Jackson Martin, Roush Fenway Racing’s manager of social media and digital marketing. “’Eye of the Tiger’ is a weekly staple at sporting events and I would say is pretty much on everyone’s ‘workout’ playlist and we can’t wait to have some fun with Dave at the track this weekend.”

Bickler was also the singing voice behind the highly successful (most award-winning radio campaign in advertising history!) ‘Real Men of Genius’ Bud Light radio and TV commercials, including promotional events where he sang live spots and the National Anthem at major sporting events across the country.

Bickler started his musical career as lead singer of 1970s rock group Jamestown Massacre (Billboard Top 100 song “Summer Sun”) and doing commercial jingle work in Chicago.  He was lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning rock band Survivor from 1977–1983 and 1993–1999. From 1999-2009, Bickler toured the US 2013-2014 with Survivor. Today, Bickler lives in New York with his family and is finishing his solo project.
