Diabetes Awareness Advocate Larry Lukin to ‘Ride’ with Ryan Reed at Dover

DOVER, Del. (May 10, 2016) – American Diabetes Association® representative and diabetes advocate Larry Lukin will ‘ride’ along with Roush Fenway Racing driver Ryan Reed during Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Dover International Speedway. The Greater Philadelphia area native will have his name featured on a decal above the passenger-side window on the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes/American Diabetes Association Ford Mustang.

Like Reed, Lukin lives with diabetes and knows the importance of staying healthy to manage his diabetes. Through working with his doctor, eating healthy and exercising, Lukin successfully lives with diabetes and is an advocate for those who also live with the disease.

Lukin helps raise awareness and funds for diabetes through his participation in the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure® cycling event, which he has been involved with since 2011. This weekend in Dover, Lukin and his son will have the opportunity to meet Reed and watch the race from atop the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes/American Diabetes Association pit box.

“It’s awesome to see how Larry isn’t letting his diabetes slow him down and is actively managing his health to feel better and live a normal life,” said Reed. “I’m really excited to meet him this weekend and thank him for being a great ambassador for the Drive to Stop Diabetes program. I encourage fans to share how they manage their health as well using #IDriveMyHealth on Twitter for a chance to have their answer included in my paint scheme at Phoenix International Raceway later this season.”

Ryan Reed and the ‘Riding with Ryan’ program roll into Dover International Speedway this weekend for the first time this season. Reed finished 11th in this race last year after starting 17th. In his last appearance at Dover in October 2015, he finished 14th after starting 16th.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series takes the green flag from Dover International Speedway on Saturday, May 14th at 3:30 p.m. ET on FOX and MRN.
