Diaries of Thunder: Nancy Padula

Happy Daytona Eve!  It’s been a long, busy Speed Weeks and they are quickly coming to an end.  I’m not sure how many Daytona 500’s I’ve been to but it’s A LOT.  This is my fifth working with Greg Biffle, aka The Colonel as he keeps getting referred to thanks to the bolo on his KFC firesuit.

We’ve got KFC Nashville Hot on the No. 16 this weekend and there’s been a lot of fun social activation and appearances around that.  Our trip to Daytona kicked off with the Sprint Unlimited.  Things didn’t go so well for us in that; I think Greg may have been in every caution except for one.  Luckily the Duel’s went much more smoothly and Greg lines up 15th for the 500 tomorrow.

Media day was Tuesday, Wednesday was a little bit of a break with just practice, but things picked back up on Thursday.  All the Roush drivers made a surprise visit to campers in the Daytona infield.  It was fun, the campers enjoyed it and we had Claire B. from Sirius XM NASCAR Radio and NESN Fuel with us to capture the moment.  The campfire smell lingered with us all day….our neighbors in the media center did not enjoy our endeavor.

We were all in Duel one, which was good since many cars didn’t make it through the second Duel.  Friday was full of appearances.  Greg was at a Publix Friday morning for Cheez-it and then a KFC in the afternoon.

We just finished up a Roush Fenway Twitter takeover and that’s it for today.  The fun resumes tomorrow morning at Daytona 500 raceday.  Greg’s got a busy morning of appearances before the drivers meeting.  The time from the drivers meeting until driver intros is all his to get ready for the race.
