Stenhouse Jr. Finishes 42nd After A Brake Issue At Pocono

LONG POND, Pa. (June 7, 2015)- After leading the Roush Fenway Racing qualifying efforts at the ‘Tricky Triangle’, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was running 17th when his Zest Ford suddenly shot into the outside wall sending Stenhouse to the garage. After repairs Stenhouse had to settle with a 42nd-place finish in Sunday’s race at Pocono Raceway.

“The brakes were getting hot and I had to pump them up,” Stenhouse said. “They kind of maintained the first run and everything felt okay. I was still having to pump the brakes up and on that last run when the No. 13 got into us down the back straightaway. I was too busy catching it and too busy being sideways, and then once I finally caught it I didn’t have time to pump up the brakes and the brakes went to the floor.”

After leading the Roush Fenway Racing qualifying efforts with his advancement into the second round of knock out qualifying, the two-time XFINITY champion lined up in the 17th position and steadily maintained his position throughout the first 60 laps.

As the 2013 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year was battling for the 16th position with the No. 13 machine, the No. 13 machine made contact with the Zest Ford which sent Stenhouse Jr. sideways.  Stenhouse saved his machine but when he was entering turn two his brakes went to the floor sending the Zest Ford into the outside wall.

After the crew worked feverishly to repair the Zest Ford, Stenhouse returned to the track on lap 124 and through attrition Stenhouse Jr. picked up one position in the closing laps to take the checkered flag in the 42nd position.

Next up for Stenhouse and the No. 17 team is the Quicken Loans400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, June 14. Race coverage begins at 1 p.m. on FOX Sports 1. Coverage can also be heard on MRN and SIRIUS radio channel 90.
