Bayne Finishes 20th in Dover
DOVER, Del. (Oct. 2, 2016) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, recorded a 20th-place finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Dover International Speedway on Sunday afternoon.
“The long runs really hurt us,” said Bayne after the race. “It didn’t help that we had limited practice this weekend because of the weather. But I want to thank my guys on this AdvoCare Ford for all their work here. We’ll regroup and get after it at home in Charlotte.”
Bayne took the green flag for the 400-Lap event from the 23rd position as qualifying was cancelled due to rain on Friday night, forcing NASCAR to set the field by owner points, per the rule book. From the drop of the green flag Bayne reported to crew chief Matt Puccia that the AdvoCare Ford was really loose rolling through the corner.
Puccia then decided to utilize a Lap 33 caution period to bring Bayne to pit road for four tires and a chassis adjustment. However, a speeding penalty exiting pit road nullified the pit stop as Bayne had to take the ensuing restart from the rear of the field. Despite the setback Bayne pushed forward and improved six positions to 23rd before the caution came out once again on Lap 104.
The Knoxville, Tenn. native maintained his track position inside the top 25 for much of the middle portion of the event, racing up to as high as 19th before a tight-handling condition hampered the ability of the AdvoCare Ford to navigate through the corner. In the midst of a green flag run that dominated the second-half of the event Bayne fought to remain in the top 20 before pitting under another round of green flag pit stops on Lap 355.
In the closing stages Bayne would gain three positions before taking the checkered flag in 20th-place.
