Stenhouse Previews NASCAR Season With Chili Bowl Nationals Appearance

CONCORD, N.C. – The NASCAR Cup Series season hasn’t quite begun, but that’s not stopping Ricky Stenhouse Jr. from jumping behind the wheel. When he isn’t competing for wins in his No. 17 Ford Mustang, he occupies his time with a different type of racing – on the dirt track.

Stenhouse was one of 10 NASCAR drivers that participated in last weekend’s Chili Bowl Nationals at the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He loved every minute of racing his No. 17 midget for Clauson-Marshall racing

“It was great having over 350 cars racing in one week,” Stenhouse told SiriusXM’s Claire B. Lang yesterday on ‘Jack’s Garage.’ “Having a decent showing is a good way to start off your year when it comes to the racing side of things.”

This year marked Stenhouse’s 14th start at Chili Bowl Nationals. He officially joined the Clauson-Marshall Racing team back in 2016. Although he hasn’t yet scored a win at the elite dirt track competition, the driver hopes to continue to compete for wins on the dirt track.

“Our 17 midget was good on Friday but we struggled a bit on Saturday,” Stenhouse explained. “I don’t get to run the midgets near as much as I want to but I had a lot of fun last week. Especially watching Christopher (Bell) and Kyle (Larson) battle it out there at the end.”

With the Daytona 500 inching closer and closer, Stenhouse also discussed his thoughts on the new team dynamic and the upcoming season.

“Coming into Daytona, I think a lot of the Fords are a little unknown with the new body,” Stenhouse said. “When we move on to Atlanta, I don’t really know what to expect. There are a lot of changes. Hopefully we can unload at Atlanta close, fine tune it and be competitive.”
